Dear Black Boy by Martellus Bennett, Reimagined by Mr. Tomonoshi

This picture book has been written and illustrated by Martellus Bennett, the Super Bowl Champion, animator, film director, educator, game designer and architect.

He hopes to show that sport is an amazing way to find your own success in life, but it is not the only way.

We are shown how it is possible to take many good aspects from sport; the training, motivation, teamwork, effort and values and use them in so many other aspects of life.

This moving, emotional and inspiring book highlights the benefits of hard work; there are no shortcuts.

The message is to value yourself and your gifts.

So many of the pages are filled with memorable motivational messages.

‘No man became a great man without training to be.’

If you work on yourself, focus on the future and your dreams, you can help to make the world a better place for everyone. This book is one that is filled with hope.

The deceptively simple illustrations, and the deliberately chosen colour scheme match perfectly with the text.

The features of the faces of the boys are left so the reader can imagine themselves in the book, becoming that beacon of hope and symbol of freedom.

‘Today’s mountains are tomorrow’s hills.’

I can imagine, this will be a book that will be read over and over and will appeal to all ages.
