An Aussie Year

An Aussie Year

An Aussie Year celebrates 12 months in the lives of Australian children.

Author Tania McCartney has chosen to focus on five adorable characters; Ned, Zoe, Lily, Kirra and Matilda. All from different areas and backgrounds, the five children provide wonderful depth to this depiction of Australia.

My, oh my, it is fun!

Organised month by month quirky spirals of text float around each page. Every month is dotted with vibrant images and informative snippets of text – ‘Swallows swoop and Kookaburras cackle’ are enjoyed in May, NAIDOC week is celebrated in July, and of course Book Week gets a mention in August.

Each time you come back to this book, you’ll delight in spotting something new. Every month is packed with all the delights Australia has to offer its inhabitants.

A stylish colour palette dominates Tina Snerling’s illustrations. The ‘blossoms pop’ illustration is my fav, I absolutely need that one framed on my wall!!

Do you adore endpapers in picture books as much as I do? Endpaper lovers are going to adore An Aussie Year.

They are pure delight, an extra sneaky treat squeezed into the best picture books.

Oh yes, as soon as readers pull back the cover they are greeted by a smorgasbord of Tina Snerling’s beautiful images. Small square images depicting the many facets of life in Australia pop off those pages, a wonderful reflection of the book’s content.

An Aussie Year has an energy which I love.

Serving as both a celebration of Australia and a learning tool, this picture book is a keeper.
