Picture book lovers are going to adore this latest offering from the wonderful Eric Carle, What’s Your Favourite Animal?
Eric has invited a host of wonderful illustrators to tell him about their favourite animal. A simple idea beautifully executed.
As you may expect when you give a straightforward brief to a bunch of creative folk, the results are a fabulously varied & eclectic mix of styles, humour and warmth.
Did you know that Eric’s favourite animal was a cat? Yep, he gets the ball rolling with a wonderful anecdote of his cat & a string bean!
Nick Bruel’s comic strip style offering is full of humour as he describes, and illustrates, the antics of his favourite animal … the octopus.
For shear illustrative impact Susan Jeffers deserves a mention for her powerful image of her beautiful, pure white horses … accompanied by a lovely story behind the reason for her choice.
The story behind Peter Sîs’ choice … the blue carp … is a wonderful one to read delivering a little snippet of Czech culture and the reason Peter sees the carp as his ‘favourite creature of hope’.
It is too tempting to run through all the contributions … I need to leave some discovering to you. You’ll discover why Mo Willems’ contribution was true to form and made me giggle, the stunning illustration from Lane Smith and the warm message from Erin Stead.
What’s Your Favourite Animal? has been written & presented in a manner which makes it equally accessible for both young and old alike. The illustrations are vibrant and eye catching, the text is engaging, personal and enjoyable … you are going to love it!
