It’s just a little white lie, isn’t it?
Her parents don’t really need to know Evie’s heading to Venice on an art scholarship instead of their preferred route for her of a science student placement in Florence, do they?
Evie is determined not to follow in her perfect sister’s footsteps and become a scientist, she wants to study art and her chance to do that lies in Venice.
Receiving a full scholarship her parents had no idea about, she ventures to the water-filled Italian city, home to the Ballarin Institute. Hopefully her time there will provide a gateway to learning new skills, embracing art and its history, and studying the incredible creators that adorn many walls around the world. Her love of myths and folklore has always had a role in her paintings and she hopes they’re enough to be worthy of her place there. Under Veronica’s tutelage, Evie is thrown in to her work, tries to expand her knowledge of Italian and also find her place amongst the students.
Will she miss the rain, the cold wind and her overbearing sister? Absolutely not. Will she miss the conversations and sharing of artwork on the Art App with the person that really gets her? Yes, she will.
Her trip will be over before she knows it and once she has her graduation certificate, she can pursue her dreams of being an artist. However, Venice is full of surprises for her, especially the son of the Institute’s Directors, Leo. Brooding, entitled and not really what she’s looking for in a boyfriend, she endures his grumpy demenour and tries to concentrate on her work.
There’s a show of all of the students’ work held on the water in Venice at the end of the course and Evie will do anything to pass it and make her mark.
Evie navigates the family feuds, cultural differences and new-found friendships as she goes. But it’s not long before she finds out the truth about Leo and how first impressions are not always the way things, or people, really are.
Love can be found amongst the paint and canvas if she looks hard enough. Can Evie’s dreams of becoming an artist come true? Will Leo change her mind about him?
