Pom Pom The Champion

Pom Pom The Champion - Sophy Henn - My Book Corner

So delighted that this quirky panda, who certainly knows his own mind, is back. With vengeance. Pom Pom The Champion is Sophy Henn’s smile inducing follow up to Pom Pom Gets The Grumps.

Pom Pom is all at ‘sixes and sevens’ (don’t you just love that phrase?), but it isn’t long before he develops a taste for winning. With a little imagination he realises that he can win at anything … as long as he gets to set the rules.

Easy.

His mum and baby brother Boo Boo are both quite accommodating with Pom Pom’s latest whim. When they leave the comfort of home, and reach the park Pom Pom discovers things aren’t quite the same. Pom Pom’s friends in the park are less tolerant of their buddy’s latest addiction to winning, although they do try to be incredibly patient!

Pom Pom’s character is utterly charming and wonderfully rendered. Henn captures his antics quite acutely. In a gentle twist Henn’s narrative nudges Pom Pom to understand how some things are so much better with lovely friends by your side. So true.

Henn’s gorgeously vibrant and playful illustrations match Pom Pom perfectly. With small details she changes his expressions brilliantly, creating plenty of giggles. This is quite a character. Another triumph from Sophy Henn and Pom Pom!
