The Umbrella

The UmbrellaThe Umbrella is a breathtaking, wordless picture book from Ingrid & Dieter Schubert.

I must confess a preference for picture books with words, even if they are just a few scattered thoughtfully amongst the pages. However, such is the power of Schubert’s engrossing images, wordless The Umbrella may be, yet its narrative is incredibly strong & hypnotic.

I do enjoy picture books with thoughtful endpapers, how wonderful that The Umbrella’s story begins and ends on those very endpapers …

On a blustery day that small black dog adorning the cover approaches a red umbrella nestled at the foot of a tree. He is swept up into the clouds above, clinging on tightly as he is whisked away on an amazing adventure.

His adventure entails beautiful vistas and amazing landscapes, encounters with crocodiles and near misses with spears.

The Umbrella

Fabulous illustrations fire the imagination telling a story as detailed or as brief as the reader imagines. These are pages to pour over, they truly have that wonderful ‘sink into’ aura emanating from them.

The Umbrella

The Umbrella is a gorgeous book to cuddle up to at bedtime. Add details to the adventure, or simply allow those beautiful images to sweep you along through the pages.
