Because You Are Me from Kylie Dunstan is a great bedtime picture book for younger listeners due to the simple sentences and the real bonding opportunities it provides. The girl talks to her daddy in the book about all the things she can do … as long as he is there to support / help. Cute!
The illustrations to accompany this story are imaginatively created, and could even inspire an afternoon of creativity if you are that way inclined / talented. Cleverly torn paper in all sorted colours form fantastic collages to make all the pictures – figures and background included – we love it!!
Kylie won the 2009 CBCA Picture Book of the Year award for her very first picture book Collecting Colour.
