Robin’s Winter Song

Robin's Winter SongRobin’s Winter Song is a beautifully written and illustrated picture book from Suzanne Barton.

Robin is happily singing from the trees, enjoying ‘a beautiful autumn day’ when something very confusing happens.

As he visits squirrel, owl and bear he learns of this person called winter who is coming soon. Very soon. Winter seems very mysterious to Robin. Everyone is quite concerned, Owl even told him to find ‘somewhere far and away from Winter.’

The personification of Winter captures Robin’s confusion wonderfully, whilst highlighting the elements that signify winter – great for learning about seasons. Robin gets a wonderful surprise when he wakes to find the ‘fresh, crunchy white’ snow and discovers that winter is far from scary. Now he just needs to meet Spring …

Suzanne Barton’s narrative is wonderfully evocative of the seasons, and Robin is a great character. Her warm and inviting illustrations involve elements of collage which will be great for inspiring artwork.

Robin’s Winter Song is a wonderful winter read.
