The first thing that attracted me to Pip Jones and Sara Ogilvies’ picture book was the fantastic title – Izzy Gizmo – straight away you get an idea what the story is about. A girl who loves gizmos! The front cover is bold and bright and you just know you that the story will be energetic and fun.
The story follows Izzy, who loves to make inventions but she is frustrated that they don’t always work. The turning point in the story is when a crow appears, with a broken wing. With the encouragement of her Grandpa, Izzy is determined to help the crow fly with one of her inventions.
Knowing Pip Jones’ series Squishy McFluff, I knew this rhyming story wouldn’t disappoint. It has a great energy and pace that carries you along as you read the story.
The illustrations by Sara Ogilvie, are really imaginative and detailed. I loved how some of the spreads are really bold and bright images, with much fainter background ones. My three year old daughter loved studying the pictures.
