Ele Nash, My Book Corner’s YA Specialist, selects her Best Book(s) of 2017.

2017 has been an interesting year for book reading, with a definite shift toward humour and fantasy led by the publishing world.

My favourites have varied between old releases (A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle), established authors (The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell) and debut writers (Mold and the Poison Plot by Lorraine Gregory and Alex Sparrow and The Really Big Stink by Jennifer Killick).

I particularly enjoyed The Nearest Far Away Place by Hayley Long for its emotional twist, and the extraordinary science fiction tale, Satellite, by Nick Lake.

Illustration has played a big role this past year too, with books for all ages providing stunning artwork: Jim Kay’s gorgeous and ambitious illustrations of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, and Sarah Gibb’s beautiful pictures for Hilary McKay’s retelling of Fairy Tales, both deserve a special mention.

For Christmas, I’m looking forward to finally getting my hands on Philip Pullman’s La Belle Sauvage and I am really, really excited about reading two of my agent buddies’ books: Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy [review coming soon on MBC] and A Witch Alone by James Nicol, both released on World Book Week 2018!

And, of course, massive excitement and pride about the release of ‘our’ Tracy Darnton‘s debut, The Truth About Lying!
