… leading the way to beautiful story, pleasantly devoid of over the top schmaltz Olive, The Other Reindeer is a wonderful Christmas themed picture book.
Olive is a dog. A dog. But, as so often happens to the best of us … she mishears the lyrics to a well know ditty …
“ ‘Olive, the other reindeer…’ Olive sang along. “
Oh my! The penny drops, and with Christmas fast approaching Olive knows it’s her duty to get some where quick … the North Pole. She’s got a sleigh to fly!!
The reindeers are a little perplexed, but, using an extra piece of ribbon to secure her to the sleigh off they go,
‘Olive was surp
rised it was so easy to fly.’
Of course there are a few mishaps along the way, during which Olive gets to put her true dog skills to great use.
Whilst the story itself is amusing and entertaining, the illustrations from J. Otto Seibold are incredibly endearing. I mentioned those endpapers right?!
Fabulous detail and vibrancy make this a perfect picture book to indulge in, 
and special present material too.
