Molly’s Moon Mission by Duncan Beedie

mollysmoonmissionFrom the author/illustrator of The Bear Who Stared (Shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize) comes another must-have picture book!

Molly’s Moon Mission is a fantastic story about a moth who is on a mission! Molly is determined to fly to the Moon, despite being told she’s too small. The story follows her journey as she prepares for her space mission and sets off. Despite a number of setbacks, nothing is going to stop Molly from achieving her dream! There’s a bit of a surprise when Molly reaches The Moon – but you’ll have to read it to find out what that is!

Molly the moth is such a strong character. I loved her determination and her catchphrase ‘we’ll see about that.’ Despite being a tiny moth, she is determined to achieve her goal. Throughout the story, you are routing for Molly.

Duncan Beedie’s love for Space shines through this book and you can see how it has influenced the colour scheme and design of the book. I adore the expression of Molly on the front cover! It’s such a genius idea to have a moth as the central character. Moths are attracted to bright lights, and it makes perfect sense for a moth to be drawn to the brightest light at night, The Moon!

I highly recommend Molly’s Moon Mission. It has such a great underlying message of determination and believing in yourself.
