Leap Frog by Jane Clarke & Britta Teckentrup

LeapFrog

Leap Frog just leaps off the shelf with its neon green frog on the front cover. I am such a huge fan of Britta Teckentrup’s illustrations and was excited to see her illustrations in this picture book.

The story follows little Felix Frog who is lost and finds the strange noises in the jungle are making him feel a bit jumpy. It’s time for him to find a safe place to settle down and sleep. You follow his journey through the jungle through the pages of this picture book.

Leap Frog is beautifully produced. The neon green on each page jumps off the page. Britta Teckentrup’s use of bright colours work well. You really feel as if you are in the jungle.
This book is great for introducing jungle creatures to a young child and I really like the use of simply non-fiction information.

Jane Clarke’s text is interactive, which is sure to keep any child’s interest. My daughter enjoyed joining in with the words when prompted by the text. She loved reassuring Felix by saying ‘don’t worry, little frog,’ and clapping her hands and shouting to scare away the snake.

Leap Frog has a lovely reassuring ending and is perfect to read at bedtime.
