What Do They Do With All That Poo? by Jane Kurtz and Allison Black

what do they do with all that poo

What Do They Do With All That Poo? by Jane Kurtz and Allison Black really is a non-fiction picture book with a difference. The title alone is surely enough to grab any little one’s attention!

What Do They Do With All That Poo? is full of great poo facts relating to various zoo animals. Did you know that some bat poo is sparkly because of the insects they eat? Or that wombats do cube-shaped poo? No, me neither! All the animals are illustrated gorgeously by Allison Black, with so much colour and character – the sloth is my favourite, drawn shimmying down the tree for his once-a-week toilet visit.

What about the question posed in the title… what do zoos do with their mountain of poo? Well, the second half of the book answers that, by showing us zookeepers clearing it up, vets and scientists studying it, and gardeners using it for compost. Elephant poo can even be made into paper!

In amongst all the wonderful and interesting facts, Jane Kurtz’s fun rhyming text adds an extra special something…

A hippo sprays a shower with its flipping, flapping tail.
To weigh a day of an elephant’s poo, you need a sturdy scale.

What Do They Do With All That Poo? is highly recommended for curious little minds!
