The No1 Car Spotter is the first in the popular series from Atinuke.
No 1 is a confident, resourceful character, my book corner is pleased to hear the rumour this may be just the start of great new series.
No 1 is a real feature of his village, whilst keeping up with his normal chores he also manages to become the hero by saving the day for Mama Coca-Cola, whilst also spotting cars – he is the No 1 spotter after all!!
This book is neatly divided in to four independent chapters, the quirky illustrations on every page bring the story and its’ characters to life. The text is engaging and brings to life the community living in an African village. It brings to light dilemmas that all children can relate to, whilst also highlighting the cultural qualities of the village, with out being over sentimental.
Anna Hibiscus, also by Atinuke, has been named an Honor Book in the Boston-Globe Horn Book Awards in the USA which is among the most pretigious honours in the field of children’s and young adult literature. We, at My Book Corner, are heading out to grab that one next!
