Well Done, Mummy Penguin by Chris Haughton

Award-winning author-illustrator Chris Haughton has regaled us with another visually stunning picture book which, this time, has all the vibrant blues and stark whites of an icy antarctic setting.

Well Done, Mummy Penguin is a brilliant celebration of mothers, and the heroic lengths they go to provide for their offspring.

A joy to read aloud with its swishy, whooshy, cu-crunching language, it brings the watery, icy struggles of this harsh backdrop to vibrant life.

Perilous cliffs, crashing waves and sleeping seals make this picture book suspenseful at times, but always hopeful.

I particularly appreciated the close relationship enjoyed by the expressive Penguin family, already evident in the gorgeous cover art, and the unexpected eye-rolling funniness of the surprise ending!

With its breathtaking backdrop and heartwarming humour, Well Done, Mummy Penguin is the perfect book to snuggle up with this winter.
