Angry Cookie

angrycookieAngry Cookie is the hilarious new picture book from Laura Dockrill and Maria Karipidou.

Angry Cookie has just woken up, and is SERIOUSLY angry – I annoyed him simply by opening my copy of this book. Ooops! What a character! He dropped plenty of hints, but I kept going – much to his annoyance and my amusement. Angry Cookie eventually relented a little, to tell me what was making him so angry.

It seems his flatmate – who is a cactus by the way – insists on playing the recorder. Lots. And this makes Cookie very angry.

“I hate the recorder! And you’re not even allowed to use the word hate. But I just did… So there.”

But poor Cookie’s day just got worse with toothpaste running out, a bad haircut and a disaster at the ice cream parlour. Cookie has worked himself up into quite the angry mess (sound familiar?!), but it takes a little gesture from a friend for Cookie to start to calm down and look at everything with new eyes.

Dockrill’s text is brilliantly witty and funny as she delves into that familiar emotion – anger. And she does it SO well. Cookie is a lively character, little listeners really begin to warm to him. But the recorder playing cactus? Genius idea!!
