We’ve worked REALLY hard on this list, being careful not to just plonk any old titles in there. The books we’ve found are hands down GREAT reads, because you know we wouldn’t suggest anything less than the best, right?
For Older Readers
The Apprentice Witch from debut author James Nicol is a wonderful page turner with a fresh voice. Full of magic and mayhem, it follows the intriguing character of Arianwyn Gribble.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – filled with fabulous black & white photos, this exciting novel follows 16 year old Jacob as he discovers those strange stories his Grandfather told him… may not have been stories after all.
The Witches by Roald Dahl ~ from the master story teller himself. With its great guide to witch spotting, this will make a perfect Halloween gift for older readers.
Witch Wars by Sibeal Pounder, a witch themed chapter book with plenty of giggles. Perfect for younger readers.
Circus of the Unseen by Joanne Owen, a fantastical novel suitable for MG readers.
The Children of the King by Sonya Hartnett, ghostly goings on when 2 children are sent to the country during the war. MG readers.
These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly, a new mystery with a chill in the air.
The Woman In Black by Susan Hill, a classically styled ghost story which will make you shiver. If you have the chance, see the play in London after you’ve read the book.
Say Her Name by Juno Dawson, a Halloween dare at boarding school … perfect for YA readers.
