Caleb Krisp is the author & creator of the unforgettable Ivy Pocket.
Whilst most of the characters in Anyone But Ivy Pocket are trying desperately to get away from her, I highly recommend you find out more about Ivy. She’s quite addictive.
Huge thanks to her creator, Caleb Krisp, for popping in to My Book Corner to answer a few questions …
Tell us about you in 25 words or less.
I prefer my own company – it’s rather wonderful – and spent most of my days and nights wandering around my imagination.
What makes you happy?
Writing a perfect sentence.
Where have you always wanted to visit, but haven’t made it to … yet?
I have always wanted to visit the 19th century. I am yet to make it there owing to the laws of time and space. But if and when such travel becomes possible I could think of nothing better than exploring the sights and sounds of Victorian London.
Where is your favourite place to write?
My favourite place to write – indeed the only place I write – is a small room adjacent to my garage. This room is made of brick. With a low ceiling. No windows. And little fresh air. And it is surrounded by luggage and garden tools and boxes full of christmas decorations. But as soon as I walk in there the floodgates open and I find there is a story to tell.
What’s the best thing about being a published author?
The best thing is the satisfaction of holding in your hand a solid object that began as an idea in your head.
What’s the strangest question you’ve ever been asked?
I was once asked why I have such a strong dislike of pastry chefs. My answer was to provide a long list of the many beastly crimes committed by pastry chefs throughout the ages. It makes for compelling reading.
Who or what inspired the very interesting character of Ivy Pocket?!
I wanted to write a story about a twelve year old girl who was delusional, infuriating, thick as a pound cake and utterly convinced that she is adored. I was inspired by every twelve year old on the planet.
What is your worst habit?
I almost never come when called. Oh, and I’m frightfully impatient.
Your favourite word(s) and why
My favourite word is befuddled. Why? Because I frequently am.
Did we forget anything?
I would hope so.
Just for fun

Cake or chocolate? Both.
Write or type? Write. Then type.
Poetry or prose? Prose.
