The duo of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have created a whole series of great quality, funny and entertaining picture books for children … and adults!
Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book begins with Charlie Cook reading a book then each double page leads to the inside of a different book and it all goes round in one big circle ending back with Charlie again at the end. Follow magazines, pirates, newspapers and enclyopeadias – top marks for the inclusion of non-fiction!
The rhyming couplets and rhythm keep the pages turning at a quicker pace than The Gruffalo. The illustrations by Axel Scheffler are as to be expected, there is always something new to spot in the finer details. There are depths to this story, I believe that’s the reason it’s stayed a favourite in our family as it’s an ideal read for siblings.
My Book Corner loves this, it’s been designed with the parent in mind – the parent who will be reading this story over and over!
