This is a gorgeous collection of beautiful readers aimed carefully at those who are just branching out on the exciting journey of reading books for the very first time.
Each of these vibrant books features gorgeous illustrations.
The first two, (Band A books), Animals Move and Claws, Eyes, Flippers feature the artwork of the superbly talented Dub Leffler. That stunning turtle is a stand out!
Each page contains a short sentence which describes and introduces the sea animal depicted;
“The crab has eyes”
The subsequent two, (Band B books), I Have … and A Beach For Us to Play feature the illustrations of Maggie Prewett (The Old Frangipani Tree) combined with the words of Nola Turner-Jensen (The Sugarbag).
The rhythmical quality of A Beach For Us To Play engages the reader with the words and the joy of reading whilst depicting an engaging day on the beach – encompassing damper bread, fishing and swimming.
In I Have… Maggie compares her own body parts to that of the animals she is surrounded by, including dingos and eagles.
” ‘I have flippers,’ said Turtle.”
These texts are firmly routed in Australian culture making them a joy to read and pour over. What a great way in which to begin any reading journey! My Book Corner loves the vibrancy and energy not often found in first readers.
The Deadly Readers by Magabala Books can be bought individually or as a collection – a perfect addition to classroom reader boxes.
