Derek Landy is currently whizzing around Australia and New Zealand promoting the release of Book 7 in the hugely popular Skulduggery Pleaseant series.
My Book Corner is delighted that he found time to answer our questions …
Here he reveals a little bit more about the man behind the books, and the title of Book 8!
What makes you happy?
My nieces. They’re all below the age of three and they run into walls a lot. Hysterical.
Where have you always wanted to visit, but haven’t made it to … yet?
I’ve never wanted to travel! I’ve always wanted to stay at home and write, but my publishers won’t let me!
Where is your favourite place to write?
My house. I know some writers who can work in hotel rooms and cafes and wherever, but I can’t. I need to be at home, relaxed, with nobody around.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
I’d make people focus on the things that bring us together instead of the things that drive us apart.
What’s the best thing about being a published author?
You get to do something as a career that you would be doing anyway as a hobby.
What’s the strangest question you’ve ever been asked?
“Have you ever been in a fight with another writer?”
The answer was “Not yet.”
Who or what inspires you?
Books, movies, TV shows, comics, songs… Experiencing a good story well told is all it takes to fire up my enthusiasm.
What is your worst habit?
I put things off. I leave everything to the last minute. This interview, for example…!
Your favourite word(s)?
Phenomenon. When I was a kid it took me ages just to figure out how to say it.
Tell us more about your next project in 25 words or less.
Skulduggery Pleasant Goes To War.
Did we forget anything?
You forgot to mention how charming I am…
Just for fun
Tea or coffee? Tea
Paper books or e-books? Paper
Vegemite or Marmite? I’ve stayed away from them both…!
Write or type? Type
Poetry or prose? Prose
Beach or bush? Bush
Hot or cold? Cold
