Everyone

Everyone

Everyone, a picture book from Christopher Silas Neal, has an important message within its pages –

that whether you are a boy or girl, young or old, no matter where you come from, we all have the same feelings. Everyone laughs and everyone cries.

I like that the character in the book is a boy. All too often in our world, boys are told to ‘man up’ and stifle their emotions, whereas girls are encouraged to express their feelings. It’s important to have books that show that boys, as well as girls, can cry and that‘s OK.

Christopher Silas Neal uses a limited palette of colours in his illustrations, with blue being the dominating colour. I like how the world around the boy (the stars, the flowers and animals) all experience the same feelings as the boy throughout the book in the illustrations.

Everyone could be shared with children in schools, to show children that it is OK to show their feelings.
