Gorilla

Gorilla by Anthony Browne Stunning, stunning illustrations adorn this picture book from the sixth Children’s Laureate of the UK. Anthony Browne’s Gorilla first began as an illustration on a birthday card.

Hannah is lonely, her dad is always so busy and she is obsessed with gorillas. She can’t help but be disappointed when, on the night of her birthday, a tiny toy gorilla is left at the end of her bed. What? Not a real one?!

In the magic of the night the gorilla comes to life and takes Hannah on a magical journey, where she gets to spend some time with just him.

Distinctive illustrations really make this book – the gorillas themselves are vivid and captivating. Anthony Browne’s distinctive surrealist style really sparks the imagination to life. We love just looking through the pictures and discovering new delights in the details each time – spot the ‘hidden’ gorillas in the most unexpected places.

And finally, the best words .. by the author himself as quoted on Walker Books;

“Picture books are for everybody at any age, not booksGorilla by Anthony Browne -inside to be left behind as we grow older. The best ones leave a tantalising gap between the pictures and the words, a gap that is filled by the reader’s imagination, adding so much to the excitement of reading a book.”
