Grumpycorn by Sarah McIntyre

Grumpycorn

Award-winning book creator Sarah McIntyre’s Grumpycorn picture book simply begs you to read it with its brilliantly bold and superbly sparkly cover featuring the star of the show – a rainbow-maned Unicorn wearing a rather fetching, purple sweater…and a scowl.

And no wonder he’s such a Grumpycorn! Unicorn wants to write the most fabulous story in the world but it seems a bespoke writing house, the best pen that stationery can offer, and a cup of his favourite moonberry tea just aren’t enough to get those creative juices flowing.

Luckily, Unicorn is not alone…well…he wasn’t until he got into an almighty strop with his friends, Narwhal, Mermaid and Jellyfish. Yes! Your eyes did not deceive you. There is a unicorn, a narwhal and a mermaid all in the same book! My children were beyond thrilled at this triple-whammy. Sorry Jellyfish – but we did agree you were adorable too.

Sarah’s dynamic and expressive illustrations are full of amazing detail. They capture the heart and humour of this story, which strikes a lovely balance between fun and fuzzy. Isn’t it great to know that even unicorns have their off days and, best of all, they are still loved.

So brew yourself a cup of moonberry tea, sit back and enjoy.
