Here Comes Mr Postmouse is the incredibly absorbing picture book from Marianne Dubuc. It’s also worth mentioning that this one comes from Book Island, who produce the most stunning picture books – wonderfully thick pages, high quality print and the attention to detail show how much they care about their little readers.
‘It’s Monday, and Mr Postmouse is ready for his rounds.
He loads his parcels onto his little cart and sets off.’
Now Mr Postmouse diligently delivers the post to all sorts of wonderful characters throughout the week – Mr Bear is waiting for a letter from Aunt Ursula, he delivers treats for the ants and even stops by the Dragon’s den for some grilled sausages! He has to be quiet at the bat cave, wrap up warm for the penguins and climb high into the trees for the birds.
Mr Postmouse is incredibly hard working!
These wonderfully quirky characters are made even more delightful through the ingenuity of Dubuc’s illustrations. On each visit, there are wonderful cutaways giving readers a sneak peek into each habitat. Dubuc packs in plenty of details which are so much fun to pour over – from the ice skates hanging in the penguins’ house, the upside down picture handing in the bats’ cave to the little crocodile nursery in the attic. Snake’s home even goes over four pages – well he is rather long!
Here Comes Mr Postmouse is an absorbing read, demonstrating how well words and picture can work together in great picture books.
