Kakadu Calling

A wonderful collection of short stories, Kakadu Calling is ideal for those readers who are getting to grips with chapter books.

Bunitj writer Jane Garlil Christophersen pens five engaging short stories about five different children. Follow Mardjibi as she takes a trip in a helicopter with her Dad to Darwin for the first time, and Sammy as Dinky the Dingo helps him learn the lesson of respect for nature. The tale of Namanji and Bulak on their eventful fishing venture was certainly my daughter’s favourite.

The author has subtly interwoven intriguing details about the animals living in Kakadu – snakes, crocodiles, hermit crabs, dingos – this is an animal lovers perfect book!

Jane’s passion for the environment is so clear, the need to respect nature is communicated in a manner that children will just ‘get’. The stories help to communicate another way of living in Kakadu, one which relies on the environment, respect and the teaching of important skills to a new generation.
