Kiki and Bobo’s Sunny Day

Kiki and Bobo's Sunny DayKiki and Bobo’s Sunny Day, is an adorable lift-the-flaps story by the award-winning author, illustrator and animator, Yasmeen Ismail.

In this seemingly simple trip to the seaside, Kiki can hardly wait to swim in the sea. Poor Bobo, however, looks about as excited as a teacher on the last day of the summer holidays…

When they get to the beach, Bobo can’t find his swim suit but it soon turns up, quite literally, under his hat. When Kiki suggests they go for a swim in the sea, Bobo suggests lots of other things to do. And when even ice-cream doesn’t cheer Bobo up, it becomes obvious that something must be wrong. Luckily Kiki is exactly the kind of friend everyone needs. Once Kiki has helped Bobo to face his fear, the day ends in a reassuringly cosy and familiar way, with a bath, some tea and a friendly chat.

Kiki and Bobo’s Sunny Day, is a gorgeous picture book that provides, in Kiki, a role model for how to be a good friend, whilst Bobo demonstrates that overcoming real, knee-trembling fears, is totally achievable.

I love the illustrative style in Kiki and Bobo’s Sunny Day, with the uncrowded spreads, colourful scenes and fun flap additions throughout. My children particularly enjoy changing Kiki and Bobo’s expressions with the flip of a flap, while my personal favourite is the hidden bunny-mermaid!

A timeless story to treasure and enjoy, over and over.
