Laura Bridge – Best Book of 2017

,

Laura Bridge, versatile reviewer for MyBookCorner, selects her Best Book of 2017…

The Song From Somewhere ElseMy top pick of my reviews this year was The Song from Somewhere Else by A.F. Harrold, illustrated by Levi Pinfold.

Amazing fantasy in a very ‘real-world’ setting where everyday issues of bullying and lost pets intertwine with creatures from parallel worlds and life-changing secrets.

Another book that surprised me with how much I (and my 8 year old son) enjoyed reading together was the 50 year-old The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. An absolute classic which gently pokes fun at the absurdities of learning grammar and mathematics – topics that resonate perfectly with today’s primary children who know more about grammar than I do!

I hope to talk more about The Phantom Tollbooth in a post in 2018!
