“Libby always wanted to solve her very own mystery, but now she’s really faced with one she desperately wishes she wasn’t…”
I raced through Jo Clarke’s Libby and the Parisian Puzzle in one sitting and it’s the perfect mystery for early Middle Grade, brilliant for those not quite ready yet for Robin Stevens.
This is the start of a series set in a travelling school (who wouldn’t want to be part of a travelling boarding school?) and this first one takes place in Paris with a smattering of famous landmarks and French phrases.
Libby has all the observational skills of Sherlock Holmes and I loved how she deduces where new friend Connie has come from – and that she has Labradors from the hairs on her trousers. The clues are piling up about new teacher Ms Browne too and young readers will enjoy making their own deductions and unravelling the mystery with the very engaging Libby and Connie.
Plenty of suspense and I loved Becka Moor’s illustrations too. I had a major craving for a whole box of macarons by the end!
