Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History

Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black HistoryVashti Harrison’s Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History presents a celebration of over 40 women who have proved themselves to be leaders in their own way.

This is a celebration which began during Black History Month. Harrison set herself the challenge of illustrating one African American woman from history every day during February.

She discovered amazing stories -of bravery, of boldness. Each one inspiring.

Vashti Harrison dedicates a double page spread to each one  – with an illuminating biography on one side, and her trade mark illustrations on the other. From photographers to activists, from sprinters to astronauts, the variety and diversity of her selection is wonderful.

But. How do you choose just 40 to fit within these pages? It’s a tricky decision, one Harrison neatly overcomes by making room for an additional 12 at the end of her book… women who have “followed in the footsteps of hose who came before them” including Alice Walker, Zadie Smith, Misty Copeland and Carrie Mae Weems.

Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History is an enlightening and captivating read.
