Ruby’s mummy is getting married today.

The day starts with a special surprise, a gift from mummy asking if Ruby and her new little sister, Cindy will be her flower girls.
Granny helps the sisters rehearse walking slowly together and then Ruby goes to her Daddy Daniel’s house where she lives most of the time. Ruby can’t help wondering how daddy feels about mummy getting married again.
Over the course of the wedding preparations Ruby continues to learn more about mummy’s new partner, Alex.
Can Ruby accept Alex as part of her family and if she does, how will her Daddy Daniel feel?
A story about the nature of love and our power to learn that sometimes love doesn’t disappear, it can change and grow in ways we might never imagine.
This is the definition of a gentle book and that is high praise indeed. What a wonderful resource to have to explain how families can change.
Most of all, there is a sense of calm and peace about this book.
Author and illustrator Circle Yuen has used a very soft palette of colours with clever use of white space to highlight the most important aspect of the story, the family.
