Me and My Dad

Me and My Dad

Me and My Dad is a perfect addition to our Father’s Day list. With a fine sprinkling of just a few words on each page, this one is perfect for the youngest reader. As with all great children’s picture books, the depth and joy of this story also lies within the captivating illustrations.

Sally Morgan and Ezekiel Kwaymullina captures a young boy’s admiration for his dad – his bravery at facing all the things he can’t. From giant waves to sharp shells …. this one is set firmly at the beach.

Our main character loves relying on dad to help him in situations where he feels uncomfortable, yet beams with pride on the penultimate page where he is able to help dad with a fear too.

I love the way the tables are gently turned at the end instilling young readers with confidence and courage.

The setting allows illustrator Matt Ottley free range with a gorgeous palate of yellows, blues and greens in order to capture the vividness of Australia’s shoreline.

The visuals allow young readers to follow the story using their own imaginations too. A perfect way in which to help instil a love of books.
