Nen and the Lonely Fisherman by Ian Eagleton & James Mayhew

Oh my. This picture book is EVERYthing. Nen and the Lonely Fisherman by Ian Eagleton and James Mayhew is truly delightful.

“deep below the whispering waves” lived a Merman named Nen. He loved the seas, but, something was missing – his heart felt empty, and he sang a sad song to the twinkling stars.

Despite warnings from his father, Nen continues to explore the world above. And it is there he comes across Ernest. Ernest, the lonely fisherman, spends his days dreaming and creating and wondering… if something more is waiting for him.

The story unfolds beautifully; there’s drama and emotion and heart-thumping moments. I adored Ian Eagleton’s poetic, lyrical language, and the exquisite illustrations from James Mayhew.

Nen and the Lonely Fisherman is simply wonderful.
