One Hundred Bones from Yuval Zommer is a fun picture book about a dog who digs up plenty of bones … then finds a new home too!
Scruff is different from all his other friends. Without a home to go to, he doesn’t lead quite the same pampered life as Percy the pug and Ada the Afghan. They all look down their (varied sized) noses at his favourite pastime of ‘digging and digging and digging.’ Even their ‘human friends’ remain unimpressed,
‘Shoo! Shoo! Go away!’ huffed Mrs Hoity-Toity.’
A rather lovely smell leads Scruff to a very large collection of bones. So large, he needs to call on all his friends for some help. The pages filled with bones of all shapes and sizes will have little readers guessing what Scruff’s discovery could possibly be.
The motley crew head to the British Museum (cue a great double spread illustration capturing their journey through London), where they make two great discoveries.
Yuval Zommer’s narrative has a great pace, with plenty of enjoyable little twists and turns to hold the attention of little readers. His illustrations really are quite glorious, and will certainly be adored by dog lovers in particular.
