Otto lives an unconventional life with his inventor uncle, Delderfield Macauley. Never wandering far from home he spends a lot of his time with all the mechanical animals his uncle makes – parrots, monkeys, flamingos and so many more.
Florence tries her best to stay invisible. All she ever wants to do is draw but there is nowhere for her to do that when she lives on the streets. Daring to break in to Otto’s house to catch a glimpse of the steampunk menagerie, she steals away into the night after drawing the animals that fill his home. Otto knows she is there and they soon become friends, companions in their search for something more in life.
When Florence is blamed for some of the parrots going missing, it’s up to Otto to solve the crime and prove her innocence. With pirates, villains and adventures galore, can they clear her name and rescue the parrots in time?
Dawn Treacher has written and illustrated a fantastic story full of adventure, friendship and intrigue. The mechanical animals are tremendous and create a fantastic creative cast that every reader will enjoy. You will be rooting for Otto and Florence from the first page – a fantastic read!
