Patrice Lawrence – Best Book of 2017

,

Patrice Lawrence, YA writer of Orangeboy and Indigo Donut, selects her Best Book of 2017…

Out of Heart

My favourite book of 2017 was Irfan Master’s Out Of Heart.

Fifteen-year-old Adam’s family is recovering from tragedy, traumatised and judged by the local community.

Adam’s grandfather, the most significant man in Adam’s life, dies and donates his heart. William, a l loner, receives the heart and finds his way into Adam’s family.

I adore London books, but this book captured the east London voices I hear everyday in a poignant, funny and poetic tale that has stayed with me long after reading it.
