Seed by Caryl Lewis

When Marty is given a seed by his Grandad for his birthday, he’s not quite sure what to make of the small, unassuming gift. He is grateful for it though, as he doesn’t have much. His mum, on the other hand, has too much. She can’t seem to throw anything away so his house is full to the brim of things she won’t part with. Craving space, he spends more and more time on his Grandad’s allotment rather than at home. To his surprise, it turns out that planting and nourishing the seed is just the start of a great adventure for Marty, Grandad, and best friend, Gracie.

What would you say if you saw a floating pumpkin sailing on the sea? Would you think it was magic? An illusion, perhaps? Take a splash into Marty’s world and join him on a journey you’ll never forget. All you need is a burst of magic, a secret wish and friends that accept you no matter who you are.

Seed‘, the first middle grade story written in English by Welsh author, Caryl Lewis, will have you rooting for Marty as he overcomes his fears and finds his place in the world. Aggressive bullies, an unconventional home life and a Grandad who has mysterious inventive ideas that will never work (or will they?), are just a small part of Marty’s brave yet heart-warming story. George Ermos’s illustrations burst into life from the cover to the very last page as the reader follows the trio on their epic story through stormy seas (in more ways than one).

As Caryl Lewis says

“…After all, with a little love and a lot of imagination, you can achieve anything…”
