Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam: The Cat Burglar

Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam: The Cat BurglarIf you enjoyed Tracey Corderoy and Steven Lenton’s picture book, Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam, you’ll love The Cat Burglar. From crime to cakes to … heroes — this pair just get more loveable!

Another tasty treat of a rhyming read, served with top-secret buns filled with top-secret jam and a deliciously juicy bit of gossip — Kitty Le Claw, the cat burglar is in town!

Kitty has already been busy burgling the jewellers and ten houses and the bank is next on her list. Shifty and Sam call an urgent top-secret meeting in their cafe. But before the dogs get a chance to begin their top-secret chat, a thin, poor cat Ruby appears at the door asking for work. Shifty and Sam decide to give her a try and are delighted by her excellent waitressing and baking skills. Little do they realise that in the cellar of their cafe, a door leads straight to the bank. And since Ruby arrived, the cellar has never been so clean…

I fully enjoyed following the flour footprints alongside Shifty and Sam to find out how the pair become detectives and, after a little misunderstanding, saved the day. With fabulously detailed scenes and the spider to be spotted on every spread, child and adult alike relish Steven Lenton’s sumptuous illustrations.

The Cat Burglar is another engaging and charming story of the two former robber dogs from Tracey Corderoy, the second in the series. A fun read aloud with it’s rhythmic, rhyming text that endures many re-readings.

Next in the series: The Diamond Chase.
