Spyder

SpyderA fitting follow on from Super Bat, where Bat really wants to be a super hero, Matt Carr’s latest picture book – Spyder – features the world’s smallest secret agent… because why shouldn’t the little creatures get the great roles, right?!

Spyder is cosy in her loft space, reading her copy of Charlotte’s Web (great attention to detail Matt!), when her spy phone rings…

Tom’s birthday party is about to start downstairs. But. Headquarters informs 008 that the… dastardly Bluebottle is on its way. And if there’s one thing that Bluebottles really, really like it’s tucking into birthday cake.

The race against time is on.

Matt Carr’s narrative has our super spy facing all sorts of obstacles on her way down to the cake, with lots of spy jokes thrown in for good measure. The use of bold, primary colours liven up the scenes no end, with a lovely variety of vignettes adding to the pace of Spyder’s adventure.

Lovely twist at the end too, love a picture book with a chuckle inducing twist!

Spyder is spy-tastic fun which will make you see these fabulous critters in a new light.
