Steven Seagull Action Hero

Steven Seagull Action HeroI haven’t giggled so much over a picture book for ages! Steven Seagull Action Hero, from the awesomely talented Elys Dolan, is a fresh, funny and fabulously witty picture book that has just hit the shelves.

Steven Seagull is a retired cop, after being fired for being ‘too much of a renegade.’ But. His long suffering partner Mac, the fish, needs him back.

It’s urgent.

Someone is stealing sand from the beach. Holes are … everywhere.

Not one to let an opportunity to solve crime go to waste, Steven nobly flies into action.

He sets about interviewing a variety of suspects in order to find the culprit. Here is where Dolan’s writing and illustration really comes into its own. A variety of characters have awesome one liners which are brilliant to read out loud. There are snippets of humour dotted around the page, all organised skilfully to ensure great flow and pace to the story.

The pace quickens as Steven interviews the suspects, then stumbles across the culprit. But, can he catch him/her? (no spoilers!)

Steven Seagull Action Hero is great fun to read out loud. Plenty of details and humour mean it also has that valuable quality of being enjoyable to read over and over again. What are you waiting for …?
