Superworm

Fantastic – a new release from the dynamic duo Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler – Superworm. It was with much excitement that My Book Corner delved in to the colourful pages of their latest collaboration.

The Superworm is established, in the opening pages, as a character similar to that of the The Smartest Giant in Town. This is a generous, kind hearted worm who will quite happily do anything for some one in trouble, from rescuing a beetle from a deep well, to leaping in to save baby toad when he jumps on to the road.

Midway the tone changes when a black crow descends on the worm. Cue a wizard lizard and a few interesting plot twists and turns as this enjoyable tale reaches its conclusion.

Donaldson’s strong storyline will ensure that Superworm soon becomes a firm favourite. Definitely worthy of repeated readings!

The familiarity of Axel Scheffler’s illustrations, featuring a gorgeous palette of colours, provides ample amusement and delight from the very first page. As an added bonus, eagled eyed readers will be rewarded with glimpses of some familiar characters.

Winner of the Red House Children’s Book Award 2014!
