The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight

The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight from Elli Woollard and Benji Davies is a wonderfully upbeat picture book about dragons and knights told in delightful rhyme. Oh – and there’s Benji Davies’s quite fabulous map at the beginning … who doesn’t adore a book with a map?!

A young boy, named James, is enjoying some quiet time by a lake when ‘SPLASH!’ the very strangest of birds lands straight in front of him. This odd little bird has a broken wing … which James duly mends. His hunger is swiftly sorted by this caring boy, as is his rather sore throat.

An endearing friendship develops as the two characters trust and look after each other.

But.

Eagle eyed little readers will have picked up on a bit of problem. Davies’ illustrations show that James is in fact a little knight, and that this ‘rare kind of duck’is in fact a dragon. Yikes – these two don’t get on at all. Or do they??

Woollard’s faultless rhythm and rhyme guides the reader through this imaginative setting with two great characters. Davies’s illustrations are energetic and warm with some lovely dashes of humour.

The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight  is an adorable tale of friendship with a fabulous dusting of giggles.
