The Last Day of October by Phil Hickes

Cody wants an adventure on Halloween.

Trick or treating for candy won’t do for him!

Persuading his friends, Sean and Duri to come with him to discover the ruins of the old McBride house isn’t easy. Only the promise of chocolate entices them to come with him on Halloween.

Only, why do their phones stop working in the middle of the woods?

As a fog begins to swirl around the trees, they discover an ancient lamppost. Why does it suddenly light up when they appear? If the house was supposed to have burned down years ago, why is it still standing?

The carved turnip Jack O’Lantern in the window of one of the rooms leads Cody to enter, followed close behind by his terrified friends. Are the two children they see the ghosts of the boy and girl who died in the house fire so many years ago?

Will Cody, Sean and Duri be able to escape before the fire takes hold?

A tense, frightening thriller! Not to be read alone on a dark night.

Perfect for Halloween.

Prepare to be scared!
