The Little Gardener from Emily Hughes is a delightful picture book, which falls firmly in to the ‘this is really special’ category. If you are looking for a stunningly beautiful picture book with an endearing storyline and character … let me show you this one. You are going to love it.
Filled with warm earthy tones, we are introduced to the little gardener – a quirky little lad, with the cutest dungarees and a huge smile. His garden may not look like much on the surface but it provides so much for this character including a home, food and most importantly,
‘It was his joy.’
The garden was very big for the very hard working gardener. Despite his very best efforts it was dying. The only thing keeping him from feeling totally overwhelmed was the presence of a single magnificent flower, for surely that was the sign that he was indeed doing something right?
Hughes weaves a wonderful narrative, taking that flower as a crucial centre piece which embodies the feeling of hope. The Little Gardener is a beautiful tale about kindness, caring and, of course, wonderful gardens.
This is the book you’ll be gifting to little ones this year! The Little Gardener created byis simply stunning.
