A unicorn with a medical mystery has stumped trainee doctor Ava and her doctor dads. Unable to diagnose what’s making Glitterbug’s tummy ache, Ava decides to spend the day with her to see if she can solve her mystery illness.
Ava soon realises that Glitterbug doesn’t like the same things as all the other unicorns. They like pink, she likes black, they hide from the rain whereas Glitterbug jumps in all the puddles and stands head held high in the storm. Ava confides in her dads that she thinks she knows what’s wrong – Glitterbug has been trying to join in but is so unhappy and scared to be herself in case they don’t want to be her friend anymore, she’s ill with worry.
There’s more than one way to be a unicorn and Ava and her dads soon help Glitterbug to embrace who she really is and be happy once again.

‘The Marvellous Doctors for Magical Creatures’ written by Jodie Lancet-Grant and illustrated by Lydia Corry, is a fantastic story of bravery and inclusion. Not everyone is the same and being true to yourself, whether you’re a unicorn that doesn’t like pink or a mermaid who’s afraid of the sea, is a huge step forward in accepting who you really are.
There is a place for everyone in our world and this brilliant story helps spread the message of unity, love and family.
