Dr Rose is a marine biologist. Ever since she was a little girl, she was
fascinated by the sea. More than that, she loves to hear the fisherfolk’s
tales of a mysterious beast, called Carmella, who lives deep under the sea.
One day, she decides to lead an expedition to discover the whereabouts of Carmella.
In partnership with Anne, the submersible pilot, they plan their adventure.
For hours they dive down, down deep into the ocean. On their way they see weird and
wonderful creatures of every shape and size but no Carmella.

Anne gently says to Dr Rose that they have had an amazing time and seen fabulous
sea creatures, perhaps it is time to go home.
There will be plenty of time for them to have more adventures and one day, they may yet find Carmella.
A fascinating and inspiring story for all budding scientists. Look what adventures there are to be had!
Sure to encourage a love of underwater exploration, this story shows the wonderful world deep under the sea.
Interestingly, like Maggie O’Farrell’s, ‘When The Stammer Came to Stay,’ this story also blends child and adulthood together.
Chloe Savage’s illustrations are warm and filled with humour. The underwater scenes with their dark hues and bright creatures are captivating.
This is a book full of fun, joy, adventure and highlights the true value of teamwork.
