The Secret Woodland Activity Book by Mia Underwood

My daughter has just turned 5. I know this because I’m her Mum and also because she reminds me every minute that she can do things ‘because I’m 5!’.

For her party, we had a magical explorers party in the woods. It was an amazing day, with wand making, spotting hidden unicorns in the woods and following a trail which lead to a fairy world! I’ve definitely decided I want this as my next birthday party! As you have probably guessed, all things magical are a HUGE hit in our house at the moment. So… ‘The Secret Woodland Activity Book’ by Mia Underwood has been just perfect!

Being 5 is a strange age for choosing activity books. A lot are too simple, and my daughter flies through the stickers and finishes the book, before I’ve even finished a cup of tea! And many are aimed at older children who can read fluently.

THIS activity book is perfect for 5-year olds, being aimed at 4-8 year olds.

The first thing I noticed about this book, was the beautiful front cover illustration which has a dreamlike feel. The quality of the book is superb. This is something I have noticed with all of the ‘Button Books’ I have encountered – they really take pride in creating quality books, packed full of information and/or activities.

All of the activities within the book are based on a Scandinavian-style woodland, based on magic and make-believe. I loved the fact that the first page says the woodfolk are inviting the child into the secret woodland to help with important jobs. My daughter was certainly ready to go on an adventure through this book and each page that she’s done has captivated her. Activities in The Secret Woodland Activity Book include secret codes, mazes, craft ideas, recipes and stickers. There are also many other wonderful activities – all with a magical and mystical theme.

The pages are full of extraordinary creatures, including yetis and giants, but also has conventional woodland creatures that children will be familiar with, like snails and spiders. I should add that there are 58 pages in this book! So, it is sure to keep a child busy over many days. It is the perfect book for taking on long journeys or finding a craft activity to do together. I absolutely adore this book and will definitely be purchasing another Button Book Activity book. I highly recommend!
