The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar“pop” the little caterpillar hatches from his egg and goes on the search for something to fill his tummy.

“on Monday he ate” … and so it goes through the days of the week, counting the food, (educational: check!), until he gets to the end of the week and goes for a mammoth feast! My children love listing the food along with me “one slice of salami … ”

The little holes in each piece of food make this ideal as an interactive story for little ones … and if they are quite eager, then yes, the board book version may just last a little bit longer!

My favourite page … when you turn over to reveal he has emerged as a beautiful butterfly, ( sorry, should I have added a spoiler alert?!).

A strong classic. Of course. No home should be without The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

This was one of the first books I read to my children when they were really very young, Eric Carle’s books are good for that. Simple. Fun. Engaging.
