Trees, from Lemniscates is a beautifully rendered picture book combining soft lyrical prose with captivating illustrations.
The opening four pages show the reader how trees change during the four seasons. Then Trees delves a little deeper, encouraging curiosity in the important things that trees do.
… how they adapt to their surroundings, use their roots to talk to each other and how they provide shade, and clean the air for us.
With the briefest of prose, the narrative imbues a wonderfully poetic tone. The illustrations are quite captivating, with a wonderful variety of trees taking centre stage, until the very end – when a young character takes a seed, and takes care of the resulting tree sapling on the final, wordless page.
A wonderful message.
A celebration of nature.
‘Trees are marvellous beings.’
